Imtex awarded $500,000 in IRAP funding - 08/15/2008
The National Research Council of Canada's Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRCIRAP) announced last week that it would significantly support Imtex Membrane Corp. during its research and development phase from August 2008 until the end of 2009. The amount of IRAP funding for the Imtex project is $500,000.
Imtex is poised to have a significant impact on the petrochemical industry. With IRAP support, Imtex is developing and demonstrating an innovative gas separation membrane technology for use in the most energy intensive component in the production of ethylene, propylene and other high volume olefin chemicals.
Cryogenic distillation – the only commercially viable method for this process since the 1940’s – consumes over 20 GigaJoules of energy for every ton of ethylene produced. Imtex technology may be able to reduce this by more than 30 per cent, reducing costs dramatically. The Imtex process is also expected to enable production plants to significantly lower their greenhouse gas emissions.
The technology is being designed to be adaptable to both existing and new production plants. About IRA
NRC-IRAP supports innovative research and development in Canada, helping startups become commercialization-ready. It is Canada's premier innovation assistance program for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
About Imtex Imtex Membranes Corp. provides advanced membrane technology – for olefin/paraffin separation and many other applications. Its patented olefin/paraffin separation technology is the first commercially viable technology for its application with dramatic economic and environmental benefits that will quickly set new standards across the petrochemical industry.
