Lower Cost, High Performance Alternative to Conventional Olefin Separation Methods

March 23, 2015

Light olefins production is a greater than one hundred billion dollar industry annually, and the olefin/paraffin separation process is one of the most energy-intensive operation in the production of ethylene, propylene and other high volume olefin petrochemicals.

Imtex Membranes Corp., announced the introduction of the Permylene™ Membrane System, the first commercially available facilitated transport membrane system. It is a high performance, lower cost alternative to traditional distillation techniques for olefin extraction and purification in the petrochemical and refining industries.  Permylene offers significant economic and environmental benefits over the distillation processes typically employed for olefin-paraffin separations.

“After years of intensive research and development, Imtex has successfully resolved the technological and operational issues that have prevented the deployment of membrane solutions in rigorous applications in the petrochemical  industry that depend on reliable, continuous operation for extended periods of time,” said I. Glenn Towe, president and CEO of Imtex.  “The Permylene Membrane System offers producers of mixed olefin-paraffin streams the opportunity to separate and recover higher value olefins at a significantly reduced capital investment and operating cost versus conventional separation processes.”

The Permylene Membrane System will be a featured topic at the 27th Ethylene Producers Conference that will be held April 26-30, 2015, at the Austin Hilton in Austin, Texas.  The conference will be held in conjunction with the 2015 American Institute of Chemical Engineering Spring Meeting at the same location.

Founded in 2007, Imtex is an advanced membrane separation technology company that is focused on the rapid deployment of a patented high performance, reliable and cost-effective membrane technology for the separation of olefins from paraffins and other compounds. Imtex is committed to delivering technology to the petrochemical industry that dramatically improves the efficiency, sustainability and cost effectiveness of separating mixed gas streams.  To learn more about Imtex and the Permylene Membrane System, go to
